About ToolSite
We built this tool because Australian business owners needed a fast, accurate GST calculator that follows ATO formulas exactly — no subscriptions, no sign-ups, no guessing.
Why We Built This Calculator
Australia's GST has been 10% since 2000. The maths is simple. But sole traders, freelancers, and small business owners still get it wrong — claiming credits without valid tax invoices, using the wrong formula to remove GST from an inclusive price, or failing to register until months after crossing the $75,000 threshold.
We built GST Calculator Australia to eliminate those errors. The tool uses the exact add-GST and remove-GST formulas published by the Australian Taxation Office. No rounding at intermediate steps. No guesswork. Just the right number, every time, in under a second.
The site is free, runs without an account, and works on any device. We don't track your inputs, show interstitial ads, or require you to scroll past irrelevant content before you can use the tool.
Built for Australian GST
Every calculation on this site is specific to Australia's 10% GST rate under the A New Tax System (Goods and Services Tax) Act 1999. We don't cover overseas VAT rates or historical Australian tax systems — we do one thing and do it correctly.
Our Mission
Every Australian business owner and sole trader should be able to verify a GST figure instantly, without needing an accountant on speed dial or an $80/month accounting subscription. Free, accurate, and fast.
Accuracy & Trust
Our formulas match the ATO's published guidance on GST calculations. We cite our methodology transparently and update the site whenever ATO rules or thresholds change. The current GST rate has been 10% since 1 July 2000 and remains unchanged.
Our Methodology
The two GST formulas used on this site are:
- Adding GST: Total = Amount × 1.10. GST component = Amount × 0.10.
- Removing GST: Net = Amount ÷ 1.10. GST component = Amount ÷ 11.
These formulas are derived from the A New Tax System (Goods and Services Tax) Act 1999 and are consistent with the Australian Taxation Office's published guidance for GST-registered businesses completing their Business Activity Statement (BAS).
All calculations use full floating-point precision and round only the final result to two decimal places, matching standard Australian accounting software behaviour. The results on this site align with those produced by Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks for the same inputs.
Our Editorial Process
Every piece of content on this site — the calculator FAQ, the blog guides, the methodology explanations — is written and verified against current ATO guidance and the legislation. We don't publish AI-generated summaries or content that paraphrases Wikipedia.
Blog posts are reviewed for factual accuracy before publication. We cite the specific ATO publications, rulings (GSTRs), and legislation sections that support each claim. Where rules are subject to interpretation or change, we flag that and recommend consulting a registered tax agent.
We update content when ATO thresholds or rules change. The last update date appears on every calculator and blog post. If you spot an error or an outdated figure, please let us know.
